Week 27: Students will conduct research for their chosen topic and begin writing their paper.
Monday: Finish number two on the back of the CDA reflection sheet.
Tuesday: 3rd and 4th cores should record three searches (the keywords to type into a search engine) that will help them locate articles related to their topic.
Wednesday: Finish writing body paragraph one.
Thursday: Finish writing body paragraph two.
Friday: Finish writing body paragraph three.
Week 26: Students will use their research skills to work on their STEM research project.
Monday: Write down search terms (how you would search for the answer on google) for the rest of your research questions. (The research questions are located in the STEM project packet.)
Tuesday: Write two things you learned about internet searches and one question you still have.
Wednesday: Plan the rest of your research or slides (depending on progress).
Thursday: Plan the rest of your research or slides (depending on progress).
Friday: Share with someone in your family what you learned creating your presentation this week.
Week 25: Students will begin practicing their searching skills.
Tuesday: What is the best kind of breakfast for middle school students? Use the RACERS response strategy to answer.
Wednesday: Write two things you learned or reviewed about internet searches. Write one question you still have.
Thursday: Read for twenty minutes and then write a paragraph responding to the text.
Friday: Share one new way to use google searches with someone in your family.
Week 24: This week's homework focuses on using the RACERS strategy to answer a short response question. Students will begin practicing their searching skills.
Monday: Compare and contrast the RACERS response strategy with the OREO paragraph writing strategy.

Week 23: Snow days
Week 22: This week's homework focuses on tackling difficult texts, inferencing and writing short responses using textual evidence.
Monday: Write a paragraph describing what to do if you get stuck reading something that is difficult to understand.
Tuesday: List five clues that authors often leave in texts that help you figure out their point of view (perspective) on the topic. Explain or give an example for each one.
Wednesday: Sleep well and review your last quiz. We will take the CDA (Common District Assessment) tomorrow. Finish inferences from class! You must have at least four.
Thursday: Write down two questions you have about the CDA.
Friday: Ask an adult in your family about what kind of important tests they have taken. How has testing changed since or stayed the same?
Week 21: This week's homework wraps up the first literature circle and then focuses on using search engines effectively.
Monday: Write a paragraph explaining how the person in your book grows during the story. (4th period, you should finish your literature circle roles.)
Tuesday: Complete Monday's homework if you have not. If you did, you have a free night.
Wednesday: Read something new for twenty minutes. Write down at least three inferences in a chart as you go. An example of the chart can be found here.
Thursday: Oops! I forgot to post the homework. Compare and contrast observations and inferences in a Venn diagram.
Friday: Describe to an adult what character traits someone might infer about you based on your appearance and body language. Do they agree or disagree?
Week 20: This week's homework focuses on the importance of building norms and exploring basic research terms.
Monday: Write a paragraph describing the norms (expectations) your family has for children. Why are these norms important?
Tuesday: Read for twenty minutes and write down at least three connections you made with the text.
Wednesday: Finish your literature circle role assignment!
Thursday: Read a paragraph (from a book, magazine or online text). Paraphrase the paragraph and record the source of the paragraph.
Friday: Ask an adult how they heard about plagiarism the first time.
Week 19: This week's homework focuses on building questions to enhance understanding.
Monday: Holiday
Tuesday: Rest up in preparation for starting our next unit.
Wednesday: Read twenty minutes and develop three questions as you go. At least two must be thick questions.
Thursday: Answer one of your questions from Wednesday in paragraph.
Friday: Ask someone about their favorite author (or book). Find out how this author (or book) has impacted their life.
Week 18: This week's homework focuses on writing our performance task.
Monday: Write an introduction for your religion essay.
Tuesday: Write your second body paragraph.
Wednesday: Write your third body paragraph.
Thursday: What is one thing you could do to make your writing better?
Friday: Have a conversation with an adult around you about what kinds of things they have to research. (Examples: What do you find out when you are looking for a place to live? What do you research when looking for jobs?) Record their answers in a list or paragraph.
